India, Scotland sign four MoUs in education sector

New Delhi, Oct.12 (ANI): In a step to strengthen educational links between the two countries, India and Scotland today signed four MoUs in various fields.

These pacts will also promote student and faculty exchange and encourage joint degree development.

Human Resource Development minister Kapil Sibal and the First Minister of Scotland, Alex Salmond on Tuesday agreed that the two countries needed to strengthen their relations in the education sector.

Four Memorandas of Understanding (MoUs) were signed by directors of institutes from the two countries in the presence of Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal and Scotland's First Minister Alex Salmond.

"This diabetic foot care project signed though a Memorandum of Understanding is important in the sense to make healthcare which is important for common man and is also necessary, reasonable," said Kabil Sibal after signing of the agreements.

Apart from the four agreements, a partnership agreement has been signed between Glasgow Caledonian University of Scotland and Sitaram Bhartia Institute of Science and Research in New Delhi.

This agreement aims to deliver programmes, which could see thousands of people in India spared unnecessary amputation through diabetes.

India carries the highest diabetes burden in the world, with 41 million cases in 2007, projected to hit 70 million by 2025. (ANI)
