BJP core group meet on Karnataka situation
The BJP core group will meet under the chairmanship of party President Nitin Gadkari at 11 am in veteran leader LK Advani"s residence.
The core gorup will take stock of the developments in Karnataka in wake of Governor HR Bharadwaj's recommendations for President's rule in the state.
The core group, comprising of Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj, Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley, former party presidents Rajnath Singh, M Venkaiah Naidu, MM Joshi, Karnataka leader and MP Ananth Kumar, will also decide the future course of action.
The BS Yeddyurappa government was able to prove its majority in the house on Monday, Oct 12 after the Speaker KG Bopaiah disqualified the 16 dissident MLAs, including 11 from BJP and five independents.
The Governor, who had earlier asked the Speaker not to disqualify anyone ahead of the floor test, was forced to recommend President's rule in the state following the pandemonium that broke out after the trust vote.
The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday, Oct 12 will be hearing the two petitions of the 16 disqualified MLAs. The Centre will take a decision on the President's rule after the High Court's word. The Cabinet is scheduled to meet at 4:30 on the matter.
