Court grants bail to ULFA rebel adviser in Assam

Tezpur, Oct 9: After being in judicial custody since 2003, ULFA political adviser Bhimkanta Buragohain was granted bail on Friday, Oct 8 by a district court in Tezpur, Assam.

Sources say this a step seen as another effort to maintain peace with the group fighting for a 'sovereign" State.

However, the decision was verbally opposed by the government pleader and the judge had posted the case for hearing on Saturday, Oct 9.

Reports said Buragohain is likely to be set free after the Puja vacations despite the opposition of his release.
