Bloodcurdling anti-gay hate crime in New York
Two teenagers and a man fell prey to the anti-gay 'Goonies', who lured their victims to an apartment near Bronx Community College.
Once they got their victims in the apartment, the accused allegedly sodomised, beat, burnt and tortured them for hours.
The torture went on until the victims admit to having had sex with a man. After letting the victims go, the accused would clean the crime scene, at 1910 Osborne Place in Morris Heights, with bleach and paint.
The crimes, which took place over two week, went unreported as the victims were threatened against telling anyone of the torture. The victims, therefore, made up different stories of robberies and assault when they went to the hospital or when asked.
The police were only able to track down what was really taking place when a person slipped them a note and later told them about the incidents.
The investigating officials later put the pieces of the puzzle, including the robbery of one of the victim's brother by the 'Goonies', together.
As of now seven suspects have been arrested, while two are at large.
The Council speaker, Christine C Quinn, the city's highest ranking openly gay official, said that this was among the worst hate crimes she had ever heard of.
"It makes me sick," Quinn is quoted as saying in New York Times.
The accused have been charged with abduction, unlawful imprisonment and sodomy, all as hate crimes.
