Pratibha murder case: Court to issue sentence

Bangalore, Oct 8: The sentencing of cab driver Shiva Kumar, found guilty of raping and murdering BPO employee Prathibha Srikanthamurthy, will take place on Friday, Oct 8.

A fast track court in Bangalore convicted Kumar on Wednesday, Oct 6, five years after the crime that shocked the entire IT industry in the country.

In response to conviction, Pratibha's mother Gowramma, who has been fighting lone battle for her only daughter, broke down and demanded "death sentence" for Kumar.

The cab driver had earleir pleaded for mercy saying he has his father, mother and wife. However, Gowramma said “For me, no one is there. I'm staying alone in pain. It won't change my life. I have to suffer till my death."

Prathibha joined HP Globalsoft in 2005 after her marriage. She went missing on Dec 13, 2005 after leaving home for her night shift. Her body was found on the outskirts of the city a day later.
