Governor among 15 killed in Afghan mosque blast

Kabul, Oct 8: At least 15 people were killed, including northern Afghanistan"s Kunduz province governor, Mohammad Omar and more than 20 injured in an explosion on Friday, Oct 8, said an official.

Sources said that the bomb exploded during the Friday prayer at the Shirkat mosque in Takhar province.

Takhar Gov Abdul Jabar Taqwa said Mr Omar was likely the target. “We believe a bomb was set up in the mosque to kill the governor," he told to sources.

Gen Noori further added that his convoy was ambushed early Thursday, Oct 6 and four attackers were killed in a gunbattle that lasted several hours.

Taliban commander Maulawi Jawadullah accused of organizing deadly ambushes was killed in an airstrike on Wednesday, Oct 5 in Takhar"s Yangi Qala district, NATO said.
