Charka extends last date for Media Awards for Ladakhi persons to Oct.18
New Delhi, Oct.7 (ANI): Charkha Development Communication Network, which announced two Media Awards for Ladakhi persons earlier this month, has extended the last date for receiving applications for the same to October 18, 2010.
In addition, the Sanjoy Ghose Ladakh Women Writer's Award will be open for women writers above the age of 18 years.
This year sees the announcement of a first-ever Special Writer's Award open to for persons with disability (men and women) above the age of 18 years, including physically challenged persons need to use the services of a writer.
Ladakh continues to reel under the trauma of the disaster that threw life out of gear in August this year. While people are making valiant attempts to restore normalcy particularly with the onset of winter, the two Charkha Awards are an effort to connect their issues with the media.
The Sanjoy Ghose Awards are meant to foster such links so that their perspectives reach a widerlarger readership through the media.
The Awards seek to draw out writings on issues like Education, Environment and Disability from a cross-section of Ladakhis, including journalists, professionals, students and social activists living in the country, within or outside the region.
The added emphasis on seeking the perspectives of persons with disability led to the announcement of the Special Award exclusively for them.
The application forms are available for download on Charkha's website www.charkha.org.
Applications have been invited in Urdu, English, Hindi or Ladakhi. But awardees of the previous Ladakh Women Writer's Award are not eligible.
The Awards-Ladakh Women Writer's Award and one Special Writer's Award will be announced at a function to be held in Delhi on December 7, which marks Charkha's Founder's Day.
