New Delhi, Oct 6 (ANI): Finance Minister Pranab Mukerjee has selected senior Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer and former Consul General of India in Dubai Venu Rajamony for the post of Joint Secretary (Multilateral Institutions) in his ministry's Department of Economic Affairs.

Rajamony, who held the post of Joint Secretary (Energy Security) in the Ministry of External Affairs after his return to India from Dubai, joins a very elite group of IFS officers, who have been deputed to the Department of Economic Affairs over the years.

The position of Joint Secretary (Multilateral Institutions) is seen as an important and prestigious assignment, as it includes the responsibility of formulating India's policies towards the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the African Development Bank and the International Fund for Agricultural Development etc.

India is a founder member and key partner of these premier international agencies. The Multilateral Institutions Division, which Rajamony will head, negotiates loan agreements, disburses funds to various implementing agencies and supervises implementation of projects within the country. (ANI)
