Pratibha rape & murder: Cab driver held guilty

Bangalore, Oct 6: A fast track court here has held cab driver, Shiva Kumar guilty in the Pratibha Murthy rape-and-murder case.

Pratibha, a call centre employee, was raped and murdered on the night of Dec 13, 2005.

The victim, who had night shift on the fateful night, was picked up by Shiva Kumar when the regular driver failed to show up.

The gruesome crime shook the country's silicon city and raised questions on the safety of the thousands of women who worked late nights in call centres or BPOs.

The victim's mother Gowramma has fought the long and hard four year long legal battle, which despite being in a fast track court was hit by several hurdles such as change in judges delaying the process of justice.

The court will pronounce the quantum of sentence on Friday, Oct 8.
