Government should not step into Ayodhya issue: Sibal
New Delhi, Oct 6 (ANI): Union Human Resource and Development (HRD) Minister Kapil Sibal has said the Government should not step into the Ayodhya issue, as it was a 'private dispute' which should be left to the parties concerned to resolve.
"Reconciliation must be left to the parties concerned. The fact of the matter is that compromise and reconciliation is the way forward. Government has no role to play in this," said Sibal.
"It can state publicly that the matter be resolved by the parties concerned. But I don't think we can force the government in such a complex situation. Why should government get involved in a private dispute," he added.
Sibal further said there are complex issues such as the issue of possession, who is in possession of the site.
Sibal's remarks came in the backdrop of the Congress Working Committee on Tuesday saying that it welcomed all efforts being made by the concerned parties to reach an amicable and peaceful settlement of the Ayodhya issue.
The Congress, during its working committee also held that the final decision of the Supreme Court must be awaited on the concerned issue.
Earlier on September 30, the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court ruled by majority that the disputed land in Ayodhya be divided into three parts.
The high court bench decided to divide the disputed 2.7 acres of land into three parts, with each of the three parties to the suit getting a part of it.
The ownership of the disputed land has been divided as follows: (1) Ram Lala, the birthplace of Lord Ram, given to Lord Ram (2) Sita Rasoi and Ram Chabootra to Nirmohi Akhara and (3) The remaining part to be given to the Sunni Waqf Board.
Meanwhile, there will be a status quo in Ayodhya for three months during which a petition can be filed.
The Sunni Waqf Board has, however, expressed dissatisfaction with the judgement and decided to file an appeal in the Supreme Court against the Ayodhya verdict. (ANI)
