New system to curb money power during Bihar polls

Patna, Oct 6: For the first time in India, the Election Commission has roped in the Income Tax Department to monitor expenses during the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections 2010.

By introducing this new mechanism the Election Commission will be trying to curb the misuse of money power in the Bihar polls.

Due to this new system many candidates will face heat, as this system will crackdown on candidates who flout the norms.

More than 400 personnel will be deputed as independent expenditure observers, one for each of the 243 constituencies.

There will be Separate surveillance teams in police stations for raids to unearth black money. Besides, there will be video surveillance teams in every constituency, following contestants of all major political parties.

In order to track movement of heavy cash by air, separate air intelligence units have been installed at the airports of Patna, Ranchi and Banaras.

The six-phase Bihar election will take place on Oct 21, Oct 24, Oct 28, Nov 1, Nov 9 and Nov 20.
