Rouvanjit suicide case: La Martiniere principal arrested

Kolkata, Oct 4 (ANI): The principal and three other teachers of La Martinere School for boys in Kolkata have been arrested in connection with the caning and subsequent suicide of a 13-year-old student Rouvanjit Rawla.

According to reports, the principal and three other teachers were arrested by the Kolkata Police Detective Department on charges of abetment to suicide nearly seven months after the boy committed suicide. .

Rouvanjit's father, Ajay Rawla, had filed an FIR against three teachers and Principal Sunirmal Chakrabarty in June, accusing them of misbehaving with their son and torturing him.

Chakrabarty had earlier tendered an apology in this case and said that caning should not be linked to the death of Rouvanjit.

Rouvanjit had committed suicide by hanging himself on February 12, 2010.

The class eight student was forced to take this drastic step after months of humiliation, allegedly at the hands of his teachers.(ANI)
