Pak to reopen NATO convoy blockage at Af-Pak border after security improves: Haqqani
Washington, Oct 2 (ANI): The supply route for US-led forces in Afghanistan at the Tor Khum border had been temporarily blocked on security grounds, and will be re-opened soon after the security situation in the area improves, Pakistani envoy in US Hussain Haqqani has stated.
Speaking to a US TV channel, Haqqani said that after improvement in security for NATO convoys, the Pak-Afghan border at Tor Khum would be made operational again, restoring the NATO -led forces' supplies through the border, The News reported.
He said that authorities were bound to close the border, as blocking NATO supplies had become necessary after its choppers violated Pakistani airspace and bombed three security officials at a border checkpost.
Haqqani maintained that government officials had closed down the movement of NATO supplies over fears of public outrage, which could possibly emerge against the convoys, leading to serious security mishaps.
Supplies would be reopened right after the Pakistan government would be in a position to provide foolproof security to the supply convoys, he added.
The Pentagon is holding talks with Pakistani officials to resolve the issue of blocking NATO supply trucks at a checkpoint bordering Afghanistan, after Islamabad shut down the route, accusing them of killing Pakistani troops in the fourth cross-border attack this week. (ANI)
