Google to unveil WebP to replace JPEG file format
Computer World reported that the Google will officially announce the launch of the new file format, WebP, in Oct 2010. The new format is expected to boost the speed of Internet.
The new format is a graphics image display format and is specially designed to reduce the size of a file by at least 40 per cent.
"When we took a bunch of images, recompressed them from their current lossy formats into WebP, we saw on average about 40 percent decrease in size, which is staggering," said Richard Rabbat, a chief product manager in Google.
