Kerry phones Gilani after NATO cross-border strike

Islamabad, Oct 1 (ANI): Pakistan Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani has conveyed concern over the recent increase in US drone attacks and NATO helicopter strikes inside Pakistan to Senator John Kerry, when the latter made a telephone call to him.

Gilani also informed Kerry about the unanimous condemnation of the attacks by the Pakistan parliament, the Daily Times reported.

The Pakistani premier told Kerry that his statement published in the New York Times "was not well taken in Pakistan".

"Such statements would only serve to create misperceptions about the friendly bilateral relations between the two countries," he added.

"We had a good conversation about it. I think we will work through this," said Kerry, after Pakistan blocked NATO supply trucks at a checkpoint bordering Afghanistan.

"Obviously they are concerned - and ought to be - when there is collateral damage. We need to try to avoid it, and we do," said the senior US Senator, who, as the chairman of the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, has worked to improve US ties to Pakistan. (ANI)
