Shahzad contacted Pak Taliban to report failed Times Square bombing attempt
New York, Sep 30(ANI): Failed Times Square bomber Faisal Shahzad had returned to his home in Connecticut, and contacted the Taliban to inform one of his handlers about his act in New York, new court documents have revealed.
The documents submitted by prosecutors said that in the period leading up to the bombing attempt, the Pakistani-born US citizen stayed in regular contact with the Taliban over the Internet, using software programs the Taliban installed on his laptop while he was training with them in Pakistan.
The programs were not identified, The New York Times reports.
Shahzad communicated with his Taliban associates about the bomb he was building and the Nissan Pathfinder he had bought, as well as other topics, the papers said.
However, the memorandum does not reveal precisely what he told the Taliban of his failed attempt.
In its filing, the government also revealed that during Shahzad's cooperation with Federal Bureau of Investigation agents and police detectives after his arrest, he "never expressed any remorse for his conduct."
Shahzad was arrested two days after the attempted May 1 bomb attack in New York's Times Square, where the explosives he had packed into the back of a vehicle failed to detonate.
He pleaded guilty to 10 counts, including attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction, in June.
He had earlier admitted that he spent 40 days with the Taliban in Waziristan last December and January, and received five days of bomb training.
It was there that he developed his plot with the Taliban.
"I made a pact with them. We will be attacking US, "and I plead guilty to that," Shahzad had said. (ANI)
