Landslide kills 1000 as heavy rains lash in Mexico

Mexico, Sep 29: An early-morning landslide triggered by persistent heavy rains killed thousands in Mexico city on Tuesday, Sep 28.

Reports said the overnight incessant rains have submerged some 300 houses in the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca.

President Felipe Calderon said that soldiers and marine troops were sent to help in the rescue operations.

The federal government expressed sincere consternation after the events occurred in Santa Maria Tlahuitoltepec, Oaxaca where rains caused the landslide of a hill.
