Sensex ends below 20k; FMCG, oil & gas drag

Markets were dragged by metal, FMCG and oil & gas stocks. However, auto and realty stocks witnessed some buying interest.

The Sensex was down 148.52 points or 0.74pc at 19956.34, and the Nifty was down 38.20 points or 0.63pc at 5991.30.
In the largecap space, Tata Motors, Power Grid, Sun Pharma, and Hero Honda were up 0.4-2.4pc.
Sterlite Industries, ITC, ONGC, and Maruti Suzuki were down 2.5-8.5pc.

Trading continues on red, Sterlite down
Trading continued on negative note as investors locked in profits ahead of the expiry of monthly derivatives after the market had rallied nearly 12% over four weeks.
Sterlite Industries was facing biggest loss in trade after the Economic Times reported that a court had ordered closure of the metal producer's copper smelting plant in south India citing pollution and health hazards.
At 02.30 hrs, BSE Sensex was 19,994.12 down 110.74 points and NSE Nifty was 5996.50 down 33.00 points.
The most active in trading were Sterlite Ind, Tata Steel, SBI and Tata Motors.
The top gainers were Tata Motors up 2.31 percent, Unitech up 1.79 percent, Power Grid Corp up 1.59 percent and Sun Pharma up 1.19 percent.
The top losers were Sterlite Ind down 7.83 percent, BPCL down 2.69 percent, ITC down 2.38 percent and ONGC down 2.06 percent.

At 01.00 hrs, BSE Sensex was 20,018.78 down 86.08 points and NSE Nifty was 6007.50 down 22.00 points.
The most active in trading were Sterlite, Tata Steel, SBI and Tata Motors.
The top gainers were Power Grid Corp up 2.15 percent, Siemens up 1.85 percent, Unitech up 1.73 percent and Tata Motors up 1.60 percent.
The top losers were Sterlite Ind down 7.09 percent, BPCL down 2.48 percent, ITC down 2.19 percent and ONGC down 1.69 percent.

Market opens in green, telecom, power, realty up
Market started trading on positive note and was trading around 6050 mark. Asian markets were trading higher with gains.
IT, telecom, power, realty and auto stocks were witnessing buying pressure. Selling was seen in metal stocks.
At 09.35 hrs, BSE Sensex was 20,152.56 up 47.70 points and NSE Nifty was 6043.75 up 18.65 points.
The most active in trading were Sterlite, Tata Steel, DLF and Reliance.
The top gainers were Tata Steel up 1.90 percent, DLF up 1.60 percent, Sun Pharma up 1.27 percent and Power Grid Corp up 1.26 percent.
The top losers were Sterlite Ind down 7.09 percent, HDFC down 0.92 percent, Suzlon Energy down 0.74 percent and BPCL down 0.55 percent.
