FBI to tap SMS, emails and networking websites

FBI
New York, Sep 28: A new Bill, which is to be introduced in United States Congress in 2011, will allow the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to tap text messages, emails and networking websites.

The new bill will provide additional powers to investigate suspected criminals and terrorists. The FBI claimed that the terrorists and drug mafia are increasingly communicating online rather than using telephones, which is difficult to track.

The bill will allow the FBI agents access to all encrypted messaging services, such as BlackBerry, and to examine communications with a warrant. Any foreign communications providers operating in US would also have to have an office in the country able to provide intercepts.

The internet voice communication services like Skype will also have to give access to their highly encrypted data.
