India expects high GDP amid anemic global economy

Montek Singh Ahluwalia
Kuala Lumpur, Sep 27: Despite anemic global economic growth, India expected to reach high Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth in near future, stated Montek Singh Ahluwalia on Sep 27.

Planning Commission Deputy Chairman, Ahluwalia claimed that growth in the US, the world"s biggest economy, has been struggling, but emerging markets were doing well.

He hoped that developing countries like India will be able to maintain strong economic growth rates, even though the major drivers have slowed down.

However, Ahluwalia also emphasised that India, whose economy is expected to grow by 8.5 percent in 2010, needed to pump in a lot more into its infrastructure development programme.
