No distribution of eggs in mid-day meals: MP CM

Bhopal, Sep 25: Madhya Pradesh chief minister, Shivraj Singh Chauhan triggered a controversy when he announced not to allow eggs in mid-day meals at a Jain religious discourse organised at his residence.

Rather, he said he would encourage vegetarian alternatives.

The MP government has accepted that lakhs of kids in the state have died of malnourishment, but still the state government has refused to allow eggs in mid-day meals for kids in schools.

"This was under consideration and we have decided not to distribute eggs in Anganwadees. There are vegetarian alternatives to eggs and we will distribute them instead," Chauhan said.

But those working to check malnourishment among children in the state are furious with experts saying eggs will supplement the much needed balanced diet for the kids.
