Orissa: Test fire of Prithvi-II missile fails

Orissa map
Chandipur, Sep 24: The nine metre long nuclear capable Prithvi-II ballistic missile failed to take off during a user trial from the Integrated Test Range in Orissa on Friday, Sep 24.

The single stage liquid propelled missile with a maximum range of 350 kilometres was fired from a mobile launcher at 10:03 am from the Interim Test Range at Chandipur-on-sea.

Defence sources said the missile could not take off during the planned trial from the test range due to some technical snag.

However, efforts were on to ascertain the exact reason behind the failure on the part of the missile to take off and defence scientists were examining the matter.
