US sentences Pak scientist to 86 years in prison

New York, Sep 24: A US federal court on Thursday, Sep 24 sentenced Pakistani scientist to 86 years in custody for attempted murder of US officers in Afghanistan.

Aafia Siddiqui, 38, a neuroscientist, was found guilty of grabbing a rifle at police station in Feb 2010 and trying to gun down a group of US servicemen and FBI agents.

Opposing to such a long period of imprisonment, Siddiqui supporters yelled: "Shame, shame on this court!" They also chanted "Down with America!".

Ironically the accused pleaded supporters to take her punishment calmly saying, "Forgive everybody in my case, please.... And also forgive Judge Berman."

Though Afghan women were on her side, the Pakistani government were against her motive for attempting to take others life.
