Ayodhya: Americans cautioned on possible violence

Chennai, Sep 23: With India uneasy and tense ahead of the crucial Ayodhya verdict, United States mission here has issued an advisory cautioning all Americans in the country of a possible outbreak of violence.

"The Allahabad High Court will pronounce its verdict on the Ram Janambhoomi-Babri Masjid property title dispute on Friday, Sep 24, 2010. In the past, communal tensions over this property dispute have led to protests and sectarian violence," the advisory said on the eve of the judgement.

"US citizens in India should avoid demonstrations, exercise caution, maintain a low profile, and monitor local media for security updates," the statement issued on Thursday, Sep 23 read.

To obtain updated information on travel and security, US citizens have been advised to enroll with the nearest US Embassy or Consulate through the State Department's travel website.
