SC refuses to hear Ayodhya verdict deferment plea

The apex court bench on Wednesday, Sep 22 observed that Ayodhya suit was a civil one and refused to take up the plea.
The matter should be taken up by another "appropriate" bench, the court said.
With just two days to go for the verdict in the Ayodhya title suit, retired bureaucrat Ramesh Chand Tripathi filed a petition in the apex court seeking deferment of the judgement under Section 89 of the Civil Procedure Code.
Tripati sought the deferment citing that the verdict could trigger off communal tensions at a time when the central government and the state government are both busy tackling other serious and pressing issues like the Commonwealth Games (CWG) and floods.
