Kanpur varsity suspends professor on rape charges

Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University officials said that Professor V N Pal has been suspended after he was arrested and sent to judicial custody for 14-days in an attempt to rape case.
Kanpur University Vice-Chancellor Harsha Kumar Sehgal said that the decision was taken under a provision that gives the university the right to suspend any worker or employee if he/ she stays in a jail for more than 40 hours.
Pal's tenant, who reportedly has been refusing to vacate the house, told the police that the professor tried to rape her when she was alone at home.
The woman, whose husband is in prison, had an altercation with Pal on Sep 17, following which she allegedly had even got the man beaten up, police said.
