Flickr crosses 5 billion photo uploads

Vancouver, Sep 21: The free image hosting website owned by Yahoo, Flickr.com, has announced that the website had hosted the 5 billionth photo on Sunday, Sep 19.

The Flickr announced the photo of a building in Vancouver, British Columbia, as the 5 billionth photo which was uploaded by a Flickr user called Yeoaaron. Flickr claimed that its members upload more than 3,000 images every minute. Flickr has been steadily growing by around a billion photos a year for the last three years.

However, the social networking giant Facebook is leading, in terms of actual numbers of photos uploaded, with over 15 billion photos. It was estimated that around 2.5 billion photos were added to Facebook in every month.
