Sajjan Kumar
New Delhi, Sep 20: Disposing of the appeal filed against Delhi High Court by Sajjan Kumar in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case, the Supreme Court on Monday, Sep 20 ruled that the trail against the senior Congress leader will continue.

“The trial judge is free to analyse and evaluate the charges, and the submissions to arrive at appropriate conclusion," the bench comprising of Justices P Sathasivam and A R Dave said.

Besides directing the trial court to expedite the hearings of the case for its early disposal, the apex court also refused to quash the charges of murder and other offences against Sajjan Kumar.

The SC said that the observations made by the Delhi HC on the investigation of the case and against Mr Kumar will not affect the trial court from arriving at its conclusion.

“We are of the view that it (observations) cannot be either bad or abuse of law," the bench said.

Sajjan Kumar had moved the apex court against the Delhi HC for refusing to stay the trial against him on July 19.
