"Some undemocratic forces" trying to destabilise democratically elected govt: Gilani

Lahore, Sept 19 (ANI): Pakistan Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani has accused "some undemocratic forces" of trying to destabilise democracy, while stressing that his government was stable and such people were just wasting their time.

"The government is not going to change just because someone said so. I would advise those talking of bringing an unconstitutional change in the country to stop wasting their time," the Daily Times quoted Gilani, as saying, while addressing a gathering of businessmen in Lahore.

"Some undemocratic forces are involved in an unjustified propaganda campaign against the government. It is unfortunate that they are trying to destabilise democracy," he said, adding that political stability was necessary for economic progress.

He said that change-mongers "should also suggest a substitute that can unite all the four provinces," adding that the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) government had full support of all the provinces.

Declaring that no compromise would be made on principles, Gilani said, "We did not get this government as a gift from someone. We were empowered by the people of Pakistan. Political forces struggled for nine years to achieve this. I myself spent five years behind bars. We were not afraid then, and even now this unwarranted criticism cannot deter us." (ANI)
