Musharraf confident "nothing can happen legally" against him on his return to Pak
Hong Kong, Sept 16 (ANI): In the wake of his decision of returning to Pakistan, former president Pervez Musharraf has said that while he was ready to face cases against him, if any, for the country's sake, he was quite sure that no legal action could be taken against him.
"I'm prepared to face that (any cases) for the sake of Pakistan. And I know since whatever I did has all the legal backing and legal cover, I'm very confident that nothing can happen legally against me," the Daily Times quoted Musharraf, as saying, on the sidelines of an investor conference in Hong Kong.
He confirmed that he would announce the formation of a new party, the All-Pakistan Muslim League, in London on October 1 and outline his political platform, but did not say when he would return to his country.
"My going back is dependent certainly on an environment to be created in Pakistan," Musharraf said, adding, "I would say with certainty in the next elections, whenever the signs of the next elections come up, I will be there in Pakistan."
Though he acknowledged he had lost popularity in the country, he also said that he was confident of rebuilding a support base by involving the nation's youth and people disillusioned with current politics.
Pakistan People's Party's Secretary General- Jehangir Badr- had recently said that Musharraf could be arrested over many criminal cases against him on his return to the country.
Several cases are pending against Musharraf in courts across Pakistan, and the UN enquiry commission's report also held his regime responsible for the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto in December 2007.(ANI)
