JK: Fresh violence over Quran desecration, 3 dead

Mendhar (Jammu Kashmir), Sep 15: A protest against the desecration of the Quran in the United States yet again took a violent turn on Wednesday, Sep 15 when the police was forced to open fire to control the crowds leading to death of three people.

Over 20 others were injured in the protest that rocked Jammu Kashmir even as the Union Government held an all-party meet in the capital to figure out a solution to end the circle of violence in the valley.

As per reports, the security forces were prompted to act as a massive group of about 30,000 people marched towards a Christian missionary school in Mendhar, about 225 kilometres from Srinagar.

As the demonstrators refused to disperse, the security forces were forced to fire.

The people took to streets despite the curfew clamped in majority of the valley.

This comes after the violent protests, which hit the valley on Monday, Sep 13, after the holy book of Muslims, the Quran, was desecrated in the US on the ninth anniversary of the Sep 11 attacks.

Even though the controversial Florida pastor, Terry Jones dropped his plans to burn the Quran, few demonstrators tore pages of the holy book in front of the White house on Saturday, Sep 11.
