CCS meet: AFSPA in JK remains inconclusive

Manmohan Singh
New Delhi, Sep 14: The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) on Monday, Sep 13, put off any firm decision on withdrawal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in the Valley.

As per reports, the Prime Minister has called an all-party meeting on Wednesday, Sep 15 to discuss the volatile situation.

Singh expressed distress over the "turn of events" in the valley since Saturday, Sep 11 and signalled its intention to restart dialogue with all sections of the state, saying it is the only way forward to find an "honourable and lasting solution".

The CCS meeting went on for three-hours, however ,no mention was made on the AFSPA. But it has set off speculation that the government could consider partial withdrawal of the AFSPA as demanded by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
