15 killed in Kashmir violence
The latest wave of violence began in the Shia of the central Kashmir, after an Iranian television channel broadcast desecrating the Holy Koran in New York.
The maximum casualties happened in Tanmarg where five people were killed and over 40 others injured when security forces opened fire to disperse a stone-pelting mob. Four people including a policeman died and 20 were injured in Budgam while one person was killed and three others injured at Ajas in Bandipora.
United States Ambassador Timothy Roemer, condemned the desecration of the Koran, said the individual responsible for the act was “well outside of the American mainstream and offend millions, including myself."
With 15 deaths, the toll in the over three month long unrest in the Valley has risen to 87.
