Sensex gains 400 pts; SBI hits life high

Mumbai, Sep 13: At 3:14 pm, the benchmark Sensex ended on positive note gaining up to 400 points, led by Banking, metal and oil & gas.

As the global cues were very supportive for the day, the BSE Sensex was trading at 19200, up 400 points and the NSE Nifty was at 5760, up 120 points.

Among the bankers SBI was trading the highest with Rs 3,164.20. The other gainers were HDFC, Kotak Mahindra Bank and ICICI Bank

Both midcap and small added to the positive note on the markets.

Nifty continues to go green

At 1:44 pm, the NSE Nifty gained 100 points on the back of rally across the sectors as well as globe.

Financials were the biggest gainers, which might be ahead of RBI meeting on Sep 16.

Even the US economic data was quite supportive for markets with their increase in trade.

The Sensex was trading at 19148, up 348 points and the Nifty was at 5745, up 105 points.

The top percentage gainers were Infotrek Syscom, Brahmaputra, Aravali Sec and Madhav Marbles shot up 20pc each.

Nifty holds 5700; banks, metals up

At 10:43 am, the Sensex continued above 19000-mark while the Nifty continued to trade above 5700 level.

Asian markets were quite supportive; Hang Seng and Taiwan Weighted gained over 2pc. Shanghai and Nikkei went up 1.2pc each.

The top gainers were SBI, ICICI Bank, PNP, HDFC, Axis Bank, Reliance Infrastructures and ACC adding more support to market

In midcap space, Manappuram, CRISIL, Coromandel International, Gujarat Gas and HCL Info were up 5-9pc.

In smallcap space, Piramal Life, Maharashtra Polybutenes, Shree Ashtavinayak, Nahar Industrial and Kanani Industries gained 6-10pc

Sensex surges over 243 pts to cross 19000 mark

For the first time the benchmark Sensex has crossed 19000 mark and Nifty at 5700 level since Jan 2008.

At 9:01 am, the Nifty was trading at 5707.95, up 67 points and the Sensex was at 19044, up 243 points.

Among the frontliners SBI, ONGC, Reliance Industries, L&T, Tata Steel, BHEL, ICICI Bank, Tata Motors, Sterlite Industries and HDFC were on buyers' radar.

The CNX Midcap rose 74 points to 9159; about 810 shares advanced while 87 shares declined on NSE.

In global cues, SGX Nifty rose 0.6pc and Dow Jones Futures went up 0.6pc on Monday, Sep 13.
