Eid-ul-Fitr: Kashmir valley freed from curfew

Protests in Kashmir
Srinagar, Sep 9: On the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr, Kashmir valley has been set free from the curfew, which was imposed in the wake of the spiralling violence that has rattled the state for past several weeks.

“Curfew has been lifted from all parts of Srinagar city, and Anatnag and Bijbehara towns in south Kashmir in view of Eid-ul-Fitr," a police official told a news agency.

Eid-ul-Fitr, which marks the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, would either fall on Friday, Sep 10 or on Saturday, Sep 11 depending on the sighting of the moon.

Curfew was imposed in Srinagar on Wednesday, Sep 8 after death of four civilians in police firing at Palhalan in Pattan area of Baramulla district, sparked off fresh violence.
