Google Health Speaks translates journals to Hindi

California, Sep 7: The search engine giant Google encourages volunteers to translate health-related articles in Hindi under its initiative to boost the amount of online medical information in local languages.

Google announced that they are supporting pilot translation projects in Arabic, Hindi and Swahili and volunteers can translate health articles into these languages and publish them online on Wikipedia for all to access.

Google has chosen hundreds of health articles, written in English, from Wikipedia for their translation. Volunteers who are bilingual in English and anyone of the vernaculars are being encouraged to translate the literatures with assistance from the Google Translator Toolkit, a free, online translation application that makes translating faster and easier.

"Language should not be the barrier that denies millions of people worldwide the opportunity to improve their health with valuable health information. We encourage anyone with health knowledge who is bilingual in English and either Arabic, Hindi or Swahili to take part in the pilot projects for Health Speaks," said Jennifer Haroon, Manager of Health Initiatives at Google.org.
