Kanpur: Gangraped, minor commits suicide

Kanpur, Sep 4: Two days after being gangraped allegedly by two youngsters, a minor girl committed suicide by setting herself ablaze.

The 17-year-old girl had alleged that she was raped by two youths in Ghatampur area of Kanpur on Thursday, Sep 2.

The incident reportedly took place when the girl went to a field near her house, where she was allegedly raped by her two neighbours, identified as Pradeep and Sunil Singh Bhadoria.

The victim's father claims that when he went to the police to lodge a complaint, he was asked to return the next day.

On Saturday, Sep 4 morning, the girl poured kerosene on herself and set herself on fire, the father said.

Ghatampur police station circle officer Prem Prakash has informed that the police has registered a case and is waiting for the girl's medical report to confirm the rape charge.

The incident has sparked off anger in the village. Villagers held demonstrations and demanded the arrest of the accused, who are currently absconding.
