Leh: Maruti Suzuki, its employees donate Rs 1 cr
In response to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh"s appeal for contribution for the recent natural calamity in Ladakh, Maruti Suzuki India Limited has decided to contribute to the Prime Minister"s National Relief Fund, the company announced on Monday, Sep 1.
The company and its employees will contribute Rs 1 crore, it said in a statement.
The money will include one day"s salary from each company employee and an equal contribution by the company.
The scenic Himalayan district of Jammu Kashmir was hit by cloudbursts on Aug 5 and Aug 6 which led to flash floods claiming over 170 lives, injuring over 400 and causing widespread damage.
The call for contribution to the Ladakh Relief Fund has come from many quarters, from the media to the celebrities like Bollywood actor Amir Khan.
Donations are invited in the form of crossed cheques or demand drafts payable to The Prime Minister's National Relief Fund.
All such donations are eligible for deduction under Section 80-G of the Income Tax Act.
