HC rejects Rathore's plea challenging sentence

Chandigarh, Sep 1: There seems to be no respite for 'molester cop', SPS Rathore as the Haryana high court on Wednesday, Sep 1 shot down his plea challenging the sentence awarded to him in the Ruchika Girhotra molestation case.

With Justice Jatinder Chauhan dismissing his plea seeking release on probation, the former Haryana DGP has to serve his 18-month prison term for molesting 14-year-old Ruchika Girhotra, a budding tennis player, in 1990.

68-year-old Rathore is undergoing the sentence in high-security Burial Jail here since May 25.

A sessions court had awarded Rathore 18 months prison term after a light six month sentence awarded to him by a trial court in Dec 2009 sparked off a public outrage.
