Five kidnapped campaign workers for Afghan female MP assassinated by Taliban
London, Aug 30 (ANI): Five abducted Afghan campaign workers of Fauzia Galani, one of the few female candidates contesting the parliamentary election in September this year, have been reportedly shot dead and their bodies recovered from the western Herat province.
Police chief Nisar Ahmad Popal said the bodies had been found dumped on a mountainside in Adrskan district in Afghanistan, the BBC reported.
The five campaigners were among a group of ten people kidnapped by Taliban on Wednesday. However, they released five of them while the others were held captive.
Although the Taliban had claimed responsibility for the abduction, no group has confirmed the killings so far.
The workers' hands were reportedly bound and they were shot in the head.
The Taliban insurgents have been opposing the elections in general and participation of female candidates in particular. The terror group has also been blamed for the murder of a number of candidates in the region.
On Saturday, a candidate named Haji Abdul Manan was shot dead as he was leaving a mosque on the back of a motorcycle. (ANI)
