8 Bihar policemen killed in encounter with Maoists

Lakhisarai, Aug 30: In a fierce encounter that ensued between security personnel and Maoists here on Sunday, Aug 29 as many as eight police personnel were killed, ten were injured and three have been reported missing.

Giving the details of the encounter, Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar Singh told a news agency that the deceased included six Bihar Military Police (BMP) personnel, Officer-in-Charge of Kawaiya police outpost Bhulan Yadav, and a policeman.

It was the Superintendent of Police, who accompanied by a team of BMP, CRPF and State Auxillary Forces personnel, found the eight bodies while trekking along the hilly region.

Mr Singh said that three personnel were missing and are believed to have been kidnapped. The red rebels are also learnt to have looted with 35 of security personnel's rifles.

A helicopter has been deployed to conduct an aerial survey of the region to find the missing personnel.
