Chavan appreciates ITBP for donating Rs.10.75 million in PM Relief Fund for Leh victims
New Delhi, Aug.28 (ANI): Minister of State for Science and Technology Prithviraj Chavan on Saturday appreciated the monetary help contributed to Prime Minister's Relief Fund by the Indo Tibetan Border Police for Leh flash flood victims.
ITBP's Director General R. K. Bhatia here on Saturday donated rupees 10.75 million to the PM's Relief Fund for reconstruction of houses of Leh flash flood victims in Jammu and Kashmir.
Chavan, on this occasion, said that the donation by the ITBP to the Prime Minister's Relief Fund would be a great help to the victims of the natural disaster that nearly levelled the Leh town in Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir state.
"I must record our grateful thanks to the 'jawans' (soldiers) of the paramilitary forces where Indo-Tibetan Border Force was leading by the front. The armed forces, the air forces, and even the tourists were campaigning; they all came forward for the rescue and relief operations. This generous donation to the Prime Minister's Relief Fund will go a long way to eradicate the hardship of people in Ladakh region," said Chavan.
In Leh, the ITBP has arranged for drinking water to the victims in its relief camps and residents of Choglumsar and Sabu villages.
Despite the fact that ITBP buildings are also damaged and its jawans were also injured, they have provided their own accommodation for the affected homeless villagers.
On Aug.6, around midnight, a cloud burst occurred in catchment area of Sabu nala and at about 0100 Hrs the fast flowing muddy water, debris and slush hit Sabu and Choglumsar village, ITBP campus and nearby downhill areas.
ITBP launched an extensive search and rescue work at the same time. All the battalions of ITBP under command of Sector DIG(LEH) of ITBP pressed their Integrated Searchand Rescue team in the relief work. (ANI)
