Kolkata: Two bomb scares in a single day

Kolkata, Aug 25: Two bomb scares rattled Kolkata in a single day on Wednesday, Aug 25 as an empty box triggered panic at the airport while an anonymous caller put Kolkata's IT hub Rajarhat on high alert.

A bomb scare was sparked off at the NSCB International Airport after an empty box was found near its domestic terminal on Wednesday, Aug 25 morning.

A thermocol box was reportedly sighted outside the domestic terminal at around 9 am prompting the authorities to rush in the bomb squad, which found that the box empty.

Meanwhile in Rajarhat, police evacuated workers and launched an exhaustive search of one of the office premises after an unidentified person made a phone call claiming that there was a bomb in the Technopolis building.

After surveying the building, which houses several global IT companies, the police concluded that the phone call was a hoax.

While the threat of a blast was ruled out, the evacuation process exploded into violence as a scuffle broke out between security personnel and some by standers and media personnel.
