Mumbai, Aug 24: Police arrested a leading electronic security expert from Hyderabad for stealing an Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) from the Mumbai Collector's office.

Mumbai police arrested Hari Prasad on Saturday, Aug 21 on the charges of theft and break-in. But the charges were denied by Hari Prasad's colleagues from overseas. They told that they were researching whether Indian EVMs are tamper-proof and a source had offered them the voting machine to study.

On Apr 29, 2010, Hari Prasad along with a computer scientist at the University of Michigan and Dutch technology activist had presented a paper showing how EVMs can be tampered with. Later Hari Prasad appeared in a channel demonstrating how an EVM can be hacked.

But on Saturday, Aug 21 police arrested him saying that the EVM on the show was the same piece that had gone missing from the Mumbai's Collector's Office.
