Heavy rains paralyze Delhi, temperature dips
Incessant rains began on Thursday, Aug 19 and continue to lash the national capital even on Friday, Aug 20.
"The city will receive more showers later in the day," a Met official said.
While people were seen either taking shelter from the rain on the sides of the roads below flyovers or bus stops, some pedestrians were seen wading through knee-deep water, and motorists were stuck in massive trffic jams.
Jams were reported in ITO, Ashram Chowk, Mathura Road, Badarpur, Nizamuddin, Green Park, Laxmi Nagar areas, while the traffic was moving at snail pace on Badarpur Border, Vikas Marg, Connaught Place, South Extension, Dhaula Kuan, Karol Bagh, Moti Bagh and Mehrauli.
So far, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has received 106 complaints of water-logging, 23 complaints of falling of trees and 11 complaints of falling of building portions from various parts of the city.
The only positive aspect of the downpour is the dip in the temperature. According to the Met department, the minimum stood at 26 degrees Celsius while the maximum is likely to hover around 29 degrees.
