Uttarakhand: School roof collapses, 18 killed

Dehradun, Aug 18: 18 children were killed after the roof of a school collapsed, following heavy rains in Kapkot area of Uttarakhand's Bageshwar district on Wednesday, Aug 18.

According to the Disaster Management and Mitigation Centre (DMMC), the roof of the Shishu Mandir school at Sumgad village collapsed when nearly 26 children were studying, burying all of them under the debris.

A team of police and PAC personnel, which was rushed to the spot to launch rescue and search operation, has failed to reach the site due to landslides on the road, just 7 km away from the spot, they said.
