Moderate intensity earthquake hits Andaman Islands

New Delhi, Aug 17: A moderate intensity earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter Scale hit Andaman Islands on Tuesday, Aug 17, the Meteorological Department said.

However no immediate reports of damage and no tsunami alert had been issued.

According to the Meteorological Department the epicentre of the quake, that struck around 7:09 am at the depth of 10 kilometres, was centred at 11.7 degree North latitude and 95.0 degree East longitude in the Andaman Islands region.

Andaman and Nicobar islands are located in a high-risk zone of earthquake.
