Queen's children and grandchildren 'to lose armed guards'

London, Aug 15 (ANI): Members of the British royal family - including some of the Queen's children and grandchildren - are set to lose armed guards.

This controversial rearrangement has been done with the aim of saving a massive 50 million pounds, reports News of the World.

Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie as well as Prince Edward are among those facing government cuts.

Scotland Yard need to cut down the royal protection bill by a third of the annual 150million pound cost.

But critics fear that the supporting cast of minor royals are being turned into The Expendables, like the title of the new Sylvester Stallone movie.

But a total axe on bodyguards has not been ruled out for Edward and wife Sophie, or the Queen's cousins, the Dukes of Kent and Gloucester and Princess Alexandra.

Senior Scotland Yard officers have privately expressed concern over the soaring bill for royalty protection.

They argued that acting as "nannies" to royals not even recognised in the street is unjustifiable in the current economic climate. (ANI)
