JK: 1 militant killed in Rajouri gunbattle

Jammu, Aug 15: One militant was killed in a gunbattle with security forces and police in Rajouri district of Jammu on Sunday, Aug 15, a senior police officer said.

According to the sources, the troops of Rashtriya Rifles and Police launched a search operation in Rajdhani forest belt of Thanamandi tehsil of Rajouri district.

"Militants, hiding in the forests and maize fields, fired on the operation party. The security forces responded to the attack that led to an encounter this morning, " said IGP, Jammu Zone, Ashok Gupta.

The militant is believed to be one of those involved in the attack on the passenger bus at Der-Ki-Gali area of Thanamandi belt of Rajouri district on Wednesday, Aug 11, in which two civilians died and 18 others, including two jawans, were injured.
