Beijing, Aug 14: 2,000 people were evacuated after a toxic gas leak from a chemical plant in Zhejiang province in China.

On Friday, Aug 13 thick fumes of thiocarbamide gas were detected inside a warehouse at the Hangzhou Hexiang Fine Chemical Co. Ltd. in Xiangfu town. Workers and nearby residents were evacuated after they complained of a pungent odour, sore throats and as their eyes began to water.

Firefighters rescued 20 people from the factory and evacuated over 2,000 residents. Water was used to dilute the effect of the gas and the situation was brought under control.
